What credit cards can I use with PayPal?
You can use Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express with PayPal.
 (check is also possible if you have a PayPal Acct.)
In many cases you don't have to have a PayPal account in order to use them. However, if you have a PayPal account, it is highly recommended that you use it or it's possible that your credit card might not go through. It is easy to add new credit cards on to your account and use it.
Why was my credit card denied?
PayPal's process for accepting cards is very stringent and complicated because there are so many trying to produce fraud online. This process helps prevent the use of stolen and unauthorized cards. Since this process is very complex, it does occasionally affect valid cards. The denial of your credit card is not reflective of your credit worthiness. In cases where a valid card fails system checks, we suggest that you try another credit card in the system. If that isn't convenient or possible--
CALL PayPal at: toll free 888/221-1161 (you may have to press various options, but key thing is to get to a live operator and tell them about your card problem) They may be able to clear the problem up by confirming that your card is in the hands of the proper owner.
Some of the reasons your card may have been denied include:
- You may have selected box that you 'do not' have a PayPal account and yet you may still have one that you haven't used in a long time. Or, perhaps one of your children (relative or friend) has one that contains this credit card number.
- Your card may be listed in an existing PayPal account that you haven't indicated and you need to talk to PayPal so they can verify that no one is attempting to use your credit card without authorization.
- PayPal may have some other questions to make sure an unauthorized person is trying to use your card. Calling them can sometimes resolve this for this time and future times in using your credit card online.
- There is an extremely rare possibility that someone else has fraudulently logged into PayPal using your credit card information at some point. Calling PayPal would verify that only use are the authorized user.
I do not have a PayPal account and my credit or debit card is being denied. Why?
PayPal allows a certain level of transactions per year to go through PayPal without you having to have a PayPal account. However, at some point if they feel you are making use of their system to process either a large number of transactions or above certain limits, they want you to do so by having a PayPal account. It is easy to create an account and doing so might make sure your transaction goes through.
